Perfect swimming conditions greeted 203 swimmers for the 35th Annual Mirvac Leighton Swim Thru at Leighton Beach on Saturday 13 February 2016. The slight winds from the east, flattened water and the absence of stingers made for very comfortable conditions for all participants.

Mirvac, a long standing supporter of the Fremantle Surf Life Saving Club proudly sponsored this event for the second year running.

The hooter sounded at 8.00 am sharp and the first wave of 3200m swimmers took off under clear skies with plenty of sunshine and there was hardly a ripple on the water.

The swim is one of many run as part of the WA Surf Life Saving Open Water Swim Series. This season for the fifth time the event consisted of a 3200 metre event along with the traditional 1600 metre event and this proved very popular with 69 swimmers opting for the longer distance and the 1600m attracted 134 entrants.

Mirvac’s WA Sales Manager; Amaro Velho, assisted the Club by presenting the prizes to the competitors including a very attractive beach bag with goodies courtesy of Mirvac's Latitude Leighton Beach development.

The first female to complete the traditional 1600 metre course was Heidi Gan in 20 minutes 06 seconds. The first male was Ben Hewitt in a time of 20 minutes 57 seconds.  The closest to their nominated time was Clinton Enright who swam 30:01 – which was 1 seconds slower than his nominated time.

Tim Hewitt, for the second year in a row was the first male to complete the longer distance of 3200 metres in 41 minutes 19 seconds, hard on his heels as first female Jaime Bowler in 41 minutes 23 seconds. The closest to their nominated time was Paul Isachen who swam 53:42- which was 17 faster than his nominated time.
