The North Fremantle and Leighton Beach areas are set to develop into a new modern beachside community with announcements of the rezoning and redevelopment of former industrial sites in the area.

Recent updates include the sale and intended rezoning of the 4.4-hectre oil refinery site, and the Development Approval for the construction of a Hyatt Place hotel on Curtin Avenue, directly opposite the North Fremantle train station.

Fremantle Mayor Dr Brad Pettitt said it’s an exciting time for North Fremantle as the old industrial areas located on these prime stretches of coastal land are being developed into new urban beachside precincts.

“Leighton Beach is a beautiful stretch of coast, and as a council we have been working hard over many years to facilitate the development of the area in a vibrant and responsible way that both protects and beautifies the landscape, while providing more amenities for the community, visitors and new residents,” said Dr Pettitt.

“It is an exciting step in the rejuvenation of the industrial areas and will unite North Fremantle with Leighton Beach.

“We particularly welcome the development of the Hyatt Place hotel and the fulfillment of a long overdue opportunity for hotel accommodation along this beautiful coastal strip, and the activity, services and commercial amenities that this will bring,” he said.

Mirvac completed the award winning Beachside Leighton apartments in 2010 and are now selling one, two and three bedroom apartments from just $545,000 in the first stage of the new Latitude at Leighton Beach development.

Mirvac Group Head of Residential John Carfi, said he looks forward to the news of further development in Leighton Beach.

“Mirvac has been working towards this vision since 2006 so we are extremely excited to see the activation of Leighton Beach coming to fruition,” said Mr Carfi.

“It is fantastic to see the City of Fremantle being so proactive in the responsible development of the area. We have worked closely with the City for many years, sharing our belief and vision for the rejuvenation of Leighton Beach.

“The recent announcements should present the market with confidence to share in a unique, modern and urban beachside community.

“Mirvac has extensive experience in waterside rejuvenation projects, and we are committed to harnessing this expertise in creating a thriving hub at Leighton Beach,” he said.

Leighton Beach is an exciting place to live, and residents can look forward to it being abuzz with activity and close to eateries, amenities and activities. It is a 150 metre walk from the North Fremantle Train Station, just 15 kilometres from the Perth CBD, surrounded by recreational facilities and just minutes from the Fremantle restaurant and café strip and offers one of the most innovative contemporary beachside residential opportunities available in Perth.”

Mirvac’s Latitude apartments will deliver unparalleled oceanfront lifestyle, while remaining connected to all the amenities of the surrounding area.

“Latitude at Leighton Beach gives purchasers the chance to live in luxuriously appointed, spacious and well designed homes in an absolutely premium locale,” said Mr Carfi.

“More than 30 per cent of the apartments are already sold and provide purchasers with the opportunity to get in early to this great location, which will only become more and more popular.”

The Latitude at Leighton Beach interactive display suite with viewing tower is open seven days a week between 11:00am to 4:00pm, on the corner of Leighton Beach Boulevard and Freeman Loop, North Fremantle.
